"As part of our restructuring efforts, Lucent has had to reset priorities and make difficult decisions in order to maximize the opportunities with our large-scale service provider customers. Chromatis' end had been rumored for nearly a week, and a source familiar with the company said that while Lucent has indeed been experiencing financial troubles, ultimately the reason that Chromatis failed was simply that "the technology was not working, and Lucent saw no indications that it would fulfill its promise. Rather than beat a dead horse, Lucent decided to cut its losses."
