L.A. Jews raise millions for victims
LOS ANGELES (JPS) -- After visiting terror victims in Israel, a new coalition of Jewish organizations has donated $3.2 million for victims of suicide bombings and $250,000 worth of medical equipment.
The group, which got together spontaneously at the 1,700-family Conservative synagogue named Sinai Temple and via the Magbit Foundation in L.A., visited terror victims -- Jewish and Arab -- in hospitals around the country to learn, empathize, support and hug patients.
Dr. Pejman Salintour, chief of pediatrics at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said the group intends to raise "tens of millions of dollars more for Israeli victims of homicide attacks and to serve as ambassadors to our Jewish community to tell them what is happening in Israel."
