The Jewish Community High School of the Bay goes to bat for needy students
Pitch in at “Israel in the Ballpark” to help students in budget-strapped schools in San Francisco and Israel get necessary school supplies. When you come to the celebration June 6, please bring educational items and some extra cash that can help a needy student succeed.
“Pitch In” is a new program organized by the San Francisco Jewish Community High School of the Bay’s (JCHS) “Va’ad Squad” (Office of Community Outreach). To help local San Francisco students, they are calling for donations of new or gently used school supplies including: binders, folders, pens, pencils, paper, dividers, backpacks, computer programs, radios, televisions, VCRs, and DVD players. All such items will be collected at the ballpark entrance gate and then donated to area schools.
“The JCHS Va’ad Squad had a desire to make a difference for people specifically of their own age group and we wanted to focus on education,” said Erin Fish, community outreach coordinator at JCHS. “This is a wonderful way to give back to our community and achieve these goals.”
To raise money to buy school supplies for Israeli students, the JCHS Va’ad Squad will also be hosting the Tzedakah Glove. Step up to the mound and pitch a donation into the giant baseball glove.
Jody Davis, a sophomore member of the JCHS Va’ad Squad feels it’s important — during a time of terrorist attacks in Israel — to look for other, overlooked areas that can help support beleaguered families there. “By raising this money we feel a closer connection with kids our age in Israel,” says Davis.
All donations will be going to schools in Israel to purchase school supplies from Israeli companies. Your help will be an act of “gloving” kindness.
