Fashion show features top Israeli designers
by jennifer liss staff writer
Watch out Tyra Banks and Mark Vanderloo. Look who’s coming down the catwalk.
For an afternoon, “Israel in the Gardens” will transform into fashion-forward Milan as volunteers from Bay Area Jewish communal organizations model the hottest trends coming out of Israel this summer and fall seasons.
From funky styles for young men to women’s plus sizes, the visions of 11 Israeli designers –– including Ronen Chen, Reuma, Ginza and Yosef Hayo — will be on display while a DJ spins Israeli hits, beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Yerba Buena Gardens.
“I think [Israeli designers] are not afraid to take risks. As far as female clothing, the designs are really feminine and have power,” said Rony Gerzberg, an organizer of the fashion show and an independent film producer in San Francisco.
All the clothing that will be shown is designed and made in Israel.
The fashion show is a first for “Israel in the Gardens.” Attendees will have the opportunity to enhance their wardrobe as several of the modeled fashions will be on sale. In addition, a list of at least 16 boutiques that carry Israeli wares will be available.
Fifty amateur models of all shapes and sizes will be representing Jewish organizations around the Bay. And the stage will be built with the fashion show in mind, allowing the models to penetrate and work the crowd.
“Israeli fashion is often equated with a more European look,” said Ronit Jacobs, a co-organizer from Palo Alto. “Israel fashion is a very positive part of Israel.”
