Kabbalistic scholar at Beth Ami

YofiYah, founder of Kabbalistic Kirtan, the practice of ecstatically chanting Hebrew texts and the names of God, will be the scholar-in-residence for the weekend of Oct. 20-22 at Congregation Beth Ami in Santa Rosa.

YofiYah, who recently released her latest CD, “Sounds True: Kabbalah Kirtan,” will lead the Friday evening and Saturday morning Shabbat services, and a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Spiritual exploration group forming

A new group committed to ongoing exploration, revitalization and deepening of Jewish spiritual life is forming on the Peninsula.

The group, led by trained spiritual guides Ellen Stromberg and Wendie Bernstein Lash, will meet once a month in a private home and will employ text study, chanting, ritual and meditation.

The group will meet Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 22 through April 22. Fee is $395. Call (650) 799-9384 or (650) 365-6093 for more information.


Heroes wanted for annual award

The S.F. General Hospital Foundation is seeking nominations for its second annual Heroes & Hearts Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional or inspirational behavior. Nominations are being accepted now through Dec. 11.

Nominees must reside and/or work in San Francisco. Final selection of five recipients will be made by Jan. 1. They will be honored at a lunch Feb. 14 in Union Square.

Said Jewish community activist and foundation board member Pam Baer, “It is important to get involved in our community, and this is a great way to recognize an individual who has made a difference to you or someone you know. I urge you to send in your nomination today to honor your hero.”
