Green technology isn’t just for the benefit of the planet

An upcoming conference at Stanford University will explore how eco-friendly technology can also enhance the business community.

The Northwest Region of American Associates of Ben-Gurion University and the Consulate General of Israel have invited a panel of experts to speak March 5 about green technology such as solar and water energy, and how those developments can be turned into viable, profitable businesses.

For instance, researchers at Ben Gurion, which is located in Israel’s Negev desert, are currently at work figuring out how to farm-raise fish and then use that water to irrigate other crops.

“Multiple uses for every drop of water will be big business, in a world where much of the land is arid or semi-arid,” said Daphna Noily, regional director of American Associates of Ben-Gurion University.

The event begins at 4 p.m. with a panel of green technology experts. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., during which time Betsy Rosenberg, host of Air America Radio’s “EcoTalk,” will deliver the keynote address. Panelists and other experts will lead participants in a discussion after dinner.

The panel discussion is $25; the dinner is $50; both will cost $75.

For reservations and more information,
