‘Feast of Learning’ coming to North Bay
It turns out the Bureau of Jewish Education’s Feast of Learning is a moveable feast. The BJE event, which brings together leading minds in the local Jewish community for a one-day string of workshops, next takes place Sunday, March 18 in Santa Rosa.
“Telling Secrets, Revealing Mysteries” will include guest lecturers Rabbis Henry Schreibman, George Schlesinger and Mendel Wolvovsky, and author/therapist Estelle Frankel. A number of North Bay Jewish synagogues and agencies are co-sponsoring the feast with the BJE.
The event takes place 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Santa Rosa Junior College, 1501 Mendocino Ave. Admission is free and childcare is available. For more information, call (707) 528-4222.
Symposium on Israel
A symposium discussing internal issues and challenges facing Israel, “The State and the State of Israel,” will be held at Congregation Sherith Israel on Sunday, March 18.
The conference will feature educators from Israel, U.C. Davis and the New Israel Fund and will conclude with a multimedia presentation on multicultural Israel.
The event takes place 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 2266 California St., S.F. Cost is $55 to $65 including lunch. Call (415) 346-1720 to register.
Oakland Chabad hosting seder
Chabad of Oakland will host its first communitywide seder 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3.
The celebration will be led by Rabbi Dovid Labkowski and will features a four-course gourmet meal, kosher wine and insight into the Passover story.
The seder will be held at Piedmont Community Hall, 711 Highland Ave, Piedmont. Reservations must be made by March 26. Cost is $18 for children and $45 for adults. For reservations, call (510) 444-6770.
Forum looks at immigration reform
Several Jewish organizations are co-sponsoring a forum on United States immigration reform from a Jewish perspective.
Panelists incude Robert Rubin of the Lawyer’s Committee for the Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area and Gideon Aronoff of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.
Sh’ma, an online journal focused on Jewish responsibility, is co-sponsoring the event with the S.F.-based JCRC and other groups.
