Deaths


Uri Berman Born March 7, 1929 in Haifa, Israel, Uri died at home surrounded by his family in Palo Alto March 19, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jackie Berman, sons David, and wife Celine, Daniel and wife Reiko, grandchildren Charlie, Melanie and Karina, brother, Zvili Berman, and sister, Bobbie Krull. Uri’s love of his family was ever present and he will be greatly missed by them. Uri was a pioneer in the computer industry. In the mid-1960’s he developed a computer data base system known as DL1 for the Apollo mission, which became the basis for IBM’s Information Management System (IMS,) and was used by most of this country’s large corporations. Although Uri immigrated to America as a child, he maintained a strong connection to his family in Israel. Uri was a modest man with a wry sense of humor whose work and family brought him satisfaction and pleasure. Funeral services were held Friday, March 23, at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park. Donations in his memory may be made to the Institute for Curriculum Services project of the Jewish Community Relations Council in San Francisco or Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills. Arrangements made by Sinai Memorial Chapel.

Faye Tauber in San Francisco on March 9, 2007 at age 94. Beloved wife of the late Abraham Tauber; cherished mother of Beverly Scholar, Richard (Barbara) and Harold (Susan) Tauber; devoted grandmother of Josh, Daveena, Robin, Benjamin and Melissa; loving great grandmother of Zachary; dear sister of Bert (Regina) Kortz; a loving aunt. Member of Cong. Beth Sholom and a past active member of Hadassah. Faye will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and generous person who contributed greatly the Jewish community. Funeral services were held at Home Of Peace Cemetery’s Chapel, Colma, with interment to following at Salem Memorial Park, Colma. The family requests contributions in Faye’s memory to Hadassah or a Jewish charity of your choice. Arrangements made by Sinai Memorial Chapel.

Yetta Weiner Marshall passed away peacefully in San Francisco, March 24, 2007, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Benjamin Weiner and the late Philip Marshall; devoted mother of Rabbi Martin, Edward and Stephen Weiner; loving mother-in-law of Karen, Joni, and Susan Weiner; cherished grandmother of Rabbi Daniel (Cindy), Mark (Ann), Joshua (Kari), Andrew (Lisa), Michael (Annette), and Lisa Weiner, Ellen (Randy) Stross and Elizabeth (Joshua) Engel; great grandmother of fourteen; adored sister of Rita “Lovey” Brown and Elmer Brown and the late Nathan Spindel; dear sister-in-law of Rose Spindel.

Auntie Yetta, as she was known to her many nieces and nephews, was born May 21, 1913, in Brooklyn, NY, to newly arrived Yiddish speaking émigrés, Rose and Joe Spindel. Upon moving to San Francisco in 1921, Yetta attended Sutro Elementary and Commerce High Schools, graduating in the Class of 1930. Raising her family in San Francisco’s Richmond district, Yetta was a cub scout den mother and advisor to B’nai Brith youth, among other community activities.

Yetta will be remembered by her family for her unconditional love and numerous deeds of kindness. The family appreciates the dedicated service of the caregivers at The Gardens of Coventry Park, Hospice By The Bay, and the Jewish Home for their compassionate and sensitive care of our mother. Funeral services were held at Hills Of Eternity Memorial Park Chapel, 1301 El Camino Real, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rabbi Martin S. Weiner Educational Fund at Congregation Sherith Israel, Hospice By The Bay, the Jewish Home, or a charity of choice. Arrangements made by Sinai Memorial Chapel.
