Kids rule the runway in fashion show

This isn’t your average game of “dress-up.”

Kids from all over the Bay Area will be sporting fresh and vibrant spring Israeli children’s clothing as they take a jaunt down the catwalk at this year’s Israel in the Gardens fashion show.

“Israeli children’s clothing is charming and different,” says this year’s fashion show coordinator, Jacqueline Hantgan. “There is a distinct flair and style to it.”

About 40 young models will whirl by in a flurry of bright colors, exaggerated buttons, cute ribbons and patchworks, wearing clothing for infants through age 12.

Two Tel Aviv-based designers — Zuzikum, which is slang for “little one” in Hebrew, and Noga Geva — will be showcased in the fashion show.

Freshman fashion show coordinator Hantgan became acquainted with the two fashion designers as a result of her frequent trips to Israel. As a mother of three girls between the ages of 3 and 7, she stocks up on Israeli clothing whenever she visits. She enjoys its whimsical flair and feels good about doing her part to support Israel’s economy.

“I thought it would be fun to bring in Israeli designers and highlight their fashions here,” said Hantgan, the director of community events at the Albert L. Schultz JCC.

The clothing will be available for purchase; proceeds from sales will benefit Israeli programming at the Albert L. Schultz JCC.
