Jewish Voice for Peace joining anti-occupation rally in D.C.

washington | San Francisco’s Jewish Voice for Peace says it is sending a sizable delegation to Washington Sunday, June 10 to march in a protest rally against Israel’s occupation of Arab lands. The event coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Six-Day War this week.

Mitchell Plitnick, the local group’s director of education and policy, rejects criticism that JVP is standing with Israel’s enemies. Rocket attacks from Gaza “are abominable and need to stop,” he said.

The anti-Israel protest is being organized by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and United for Peace and Justice. The following day, the group will lobby Congress to “change those U.S. policies that sustain Israel’s 40-year occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem and deny equal rights for all.”

Part of the organization’s goal is to collect 100,000 individual signatures and a thousand organizational endorsements.

So far, 300 organizations have endorsed the plan and “thousands” of signatures have been collected, said Josh Ruebner, grassroots advocacy coordinator with the U.S. Campaign.
