Welcome Baby classes scheduled
Congregation Emanu-El is offering a series of classes for expectant parents.
Learn the many ways to prepare for your new Jewish family. Leslie Ticktin, our Family Programs Coordinator, will facilitate the group along with our clergy and various guest speakers. We will meet to discuss: the responsibilities of Jewish parenting, naming, Israel, talking to your children about holiness, Jewish education (both adults and children), celebrating Shabbat and other holidays as a family.
The class runs the Thursday evenings of Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 8, Nov. 15, (no class on Thanksgiving), Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The cost for the six-week series is $36 for members and $48 for non-members. Chuppah and Beyond class slated
CAFE Emanu-El (Community and Family Education) presents The Chuppah and Beyond, an innovative program for engaged or newly married couples. Six sessions are held, with a seventh for interfaith couples. Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, (no class Oct. 16), Oct. 23, Oct. 30, Nov. 6.
Through these classes, you will enhance your communication, learn the principles of good financial planning and develop the necessary skills to foster a long, happy, loving relationship. Join us as we help you plan your future together.

Handbook to help hearing-impaired
“Signs of Bar Mitzvah,” a handbook to assist Jewish deaf teens and their families when they celebrate a bar mitzvah, has been published by Our Way/National Jewish Council for Disabilities.
Our Way is a program of the Orthodox Union that facilitates inclusion of the deaf and hard of hearing into all aspects of Jewish life. .The handbook offers the congregation, the bar mitzvah and the family a step-by-step illustrated guide to signing the blessings before and after the Torah reading, and the blessings made by the father of the bar mitzvah. The blessings are in Hebrew and in English and are also transliterated.
