Rowena Gansel. A resident and native of San Francisco and graduate of Lowell High School, died peacefully, August 21, 2007, at age 89. She was the devoted wife of Simon (Bud) Gansel, the loving aunt of Diana Snyder and her husband Sidney Snyder of Honolulu, HI, Pamela Gough and her husband William Gough of Moraga, CA, and Alan Joslin and his wife Deborah Epstein of Cambridge, MA, and a cherished Great Aunt to Joslin Crowe and her husband James Crowe of Bingham Farms, MI, Malia Hoffman and her husband Jeff Hoffman of Hong Kong, China, Meghan Gough of Oakland, CA, Julian and Isabella Joslin of Cambridge, MA.

With her husband, she was a long time member of Temple Emanuel, and through her philanthropic work in San Francisco, she generously supported the California Pacific Medical Center, UCSF, St. Ignatius College Preparatory School, Jewish Home for the Aged, and Disabled American Veterans.

She was remembered, at a private memorial service, for her constant energy and zest for life, a woman small in stature, but grand and elegant in presence. She was the glue that held together family and encouraged them to celebrate life with joy, love and humor. Her passions were golf, painting, dance and travel. But most importantly she will be remembered for the comfort, interest and ease in her ability to care about and warmly engage others whether they are wait staff or movie stars, and how she lit up their lives with a jubilant smile, laugh and a show of equal respect, support and interest in all.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish Home for the Aged, 302 Silver Ave. SF 94112, Attention: Development Office.

His love and devotion to his entire family was the keynote of his life.
