Student in Taser incident writes for campus Jewish paper

The University of Florida student who was blasted with a Taser gun Tuesday, Sept. 18 during a speech by U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is “nominally affiliated” with Hillel and a contributing writer for the campus Jewish newspaper, The Shpiel.

Andrew Meyer became internationally known this week after the Taser gun incident made its way across the Web.

Meyer was released Wednesday after spending the night in jail and being charged with resisting an officer and disturbing the peace. The two officers who were involved are on administrative leave pending an investigation of their actions.

Meyer already has a reputation as a practical joker on his Web site, where he has posted several videos. Hillel officials on campus said staff was trying to reach Meyers to see if he wants to perform at an upcoming Hillel open mic event. — jta
