San Jose opens 16th annual Jewish film festival


The San Jose Jewish Film Festival will kick off its 16th season Oct. 14, beginning a month-long run of Jewish and Israeli films.

The festival will include a bevy of local and foreign films, all of which will be screened at the Camera 12 Theater, 201 S. Second St., San Jose.

The series will begin with “Brother’s Shadow” at 3 p.m., followed by a reception with actor Judd Hirsch. “Three Mothers” will follow at 7:30.

Subsequent screenings are as follows:

Oct. 17: “Brother’s Shadow,” 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 21: “Blues by the Beach,” 1 p.m.; “Aviva, My Love,” 3 p.m.;

“Olga,” 5:30 p.m.

Oct. 24: “Aviva My Love,” 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 28: “Be Fruitful and Multiply” and “Shabbos Mother,” 1 p.m.; “Love to Hide,” 3 p.m.; “Souvenirs” and “Minus Plus,” 5:30 p.m.

Oct. 31: “Love to Hide,” 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 4: “Cardboard Squares” and “Dark Night,” 1 p.m.; “Someone to Run With,” 3 p.m. “Discovery of Heaven,” 5 p.m.; “Six Days,” 5:30 p.m.

Nov. 7: “Someone to Run With,” 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 11: “Sentenced to Marriage,” 1 p.m.; “Just an Ordinary Jew,” 3 p.m.; “Modigliani,” 5 p.m.; “Steel Toes,” 5:30 p.m.
