Israeli author to speak at JCCSF

Israeli author Michal Govrin, whose latest novel, “Snapshots,” won Israel’s Akum Prize, will be in San Francisco Oct. 8 to deliver a lecture at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. A writer of poetry and fiction, Govrin is also a director of experimental theater in Israel. 

“Snapshots” is a fictional portrait of an Israeli Holocaust scholar whose life is retold via her notes and journal entries left behind after her death in a automobile accident. The Tel Aviv-based Govrin is also the author of “The Name.”

Govrin’s lecture is presented in partnership with the Consulate General of Israel in San Francisco, the Israel Center of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation and the Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University. Barbie’s Jewish roots film for sale online

The award-winning short film “The Tribe,” by Bay Area filmmaker Tiffany Shlain, will soon go on sale exclusively at the iTunes Store. The 18-minute film, which traces the Jewish roots of the Barbie doll, will be available for downloading Oct. 2, priced to move at $1.99.

Written, directed and produced by Shlain and narrated by Peter Coyote, “The Tribe” won numerous film festival awards and played at more than 60 festivals.
