MVFF spotlights Jewish-themed movies
The Mill Valley Film Festival, which runs Oct. 4-14 in Mill Valley and San Rafael, includes several Israeli and Jewish-themed pictures:
“Little Heroes” (see review) screens at 10:30 a.m. Sat., Oct. 6 at 142 Throckmorton and 10:30 a.m. Sun., Oct. 14 at the Sequoia.
“The Secrets” (see review) screens at 8:45 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 11 at the Sequoia and 9:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 13 at the Rafael.
“Beaufort” screens at 9 p.m. Sun., Oct. 7 at the Sequoia and 8:15 p.m. Tues., Oct. 9 at the Rafael. Joseph Cedar’s drama, which unfolds in a claustrophobic fort in the last months of the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, reveals the futility of war.
“Jellyfish” screens at 7:15 p.m. Sat. Oct. 6 at the Rafael and 8 p.m. Sat., Oct. 13 at the Sequoia. Acclaimed fiction writers Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen move into movies with a wistful and delicate ensemble piece set in Tel Aviv.
“My Enemy’s Enemy” screens at 4:30 p.m. Mon., Oct. 8 at the Sequoia and 4:45 p.m. Fri., Oct. 12 at the Rafael. Kevin Macdonald, who examined the PLO terrorist attack at the Munich Games in “One Day in September,” returns to documentaries with this study of the infamous Nazi officer whose postwar career was abetted by the CIA.
“I’m Not There” screens at 5:45 p.m. Sun., Oct. 7 at the Sequoia and 8 p.m. Tues., Oct. 9 at the Rafael. Todd Haynes’ unconventional rendering of the life of Bob Dylan employs six actors playing the troubadour at different stages of his career.
