Deaths

Henry Greenspan born on January 25, 1925 and died with his family by his side of complications of a stroke on September 28, 2007 at the age of 82 years.

Devoted husband of Frieda Greenspan for 62 years; beloved father of William (Joanne) Greenspan; idolized grandfather of Beth (Jeff) Klugman, Drew (Audra) Greenspan and cherished great grandfather of Zoe and Noah Greenspan, and Riley Klugman.

Henry was a Holocaust survivor from Poland and after moving to San Francisco, owned and operated Henry’s convenience store on Sutter Street for many years. Henry was also an avid golfer at the Lake Merced Golf Club and an active member of Adath Israel Synagogue in San Francisco.

Services were held on October 1st at Sinai Memorial Chapel in San Francisco. Interment at Eternal Home Cemetery, Colma.

Those wishing to honor Henry’s memory may do so by making any donation to the United Stated Holocaust Memorial Museum, P.O. Box 90988, Washington DC, 20090-0988 or to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn, Mission, KS 66202. Arrangements made by Sinai Memorial Chapel.

Irving B. Katz May 6, 1919–September 27, 2007.

Irving Katz passed away in his home in San Francisco, CA.  Irving was a loving husband to Frances Katz, father to Jeffrey and Robin Katz, father-in-law to Anne Katz, and grandfather to Julia and Daniel Katz.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he served in the Army Air Corp in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands during WWII.  Irving moved to San Francisco toward the end of the war, and it was there that he and Frances met over 63 years ago at a USO dance at the Jewish Center on California Street.

Irving owned his own furrier business in San Francisco for 50 years and was an active member of the Lions Club and the Masons.  His hobbies included cheering on the 49ers, watching classic movies and eating his wife’s home cooked meals.

All who know him will miss his quick wit and straightforwardness.  He was the proud head of his family for many years and is leaving a seat at the table that can never be filled.

A memorial service was held at Sinai Memorial Chapel, 1501 Divisadero St. at Geary Blvd. on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 pm.
