Marin gets second kosher seniors residence
by rachel freedenberg
Last March, the ribbon was cut on Marin County’s first-ever kosher residence for Jewish seniors. Called Bubbie & Zadie’s House, the Terra Linda assisted living facility was soon home to six residents.
Now, the house has outgrown itself.
After receiving many calls about availability even after Bubbie & Zadie’s House had filled up, Cary and Manny Kopstein decided to open a second
residence, L’Chaim House, at 777 Montecillo Road in San Rafael. (The original Terra Linda facility has also changed its name to L’Chaim House.)
Like its predecessor, the new L’Chaim House will have six spaces for seniors. The house is expected to open in mid-November, and applications for residence are currently being accepted.
L’Chaim House will have a complete kosher kitchen and will host a monthly Shabbat dinner for residents and their families.
Residents will attend Shabbat lunches at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, hear lectures on Jewish topics and enjoy Jewish-oriented music, movies, theater and other cultural events.
“It’s as Jewish as you can get, without being too Jewish,” quipped Manny Kopstein.
L’Chaim House also features 24-hour supervised care, transportation to medical and dental appointments and other assisted living amenities.
