‘Ritchie Boys’ on DVD

“The Ritchie Boys,” a 2005 documentary about German Jewish nationals who used their linguistic and cultural knowledge to help the U.S. military defeat the Nazis, will soon be available on DVD.

Interweaving archival footage and contemporary interviews, filmmaker Christian Bauer tells the story of highly educated Jewish refugees serving in the army at Camp Ritchie, Md. There they wielded unorthodox but effective forms of interrogation of German prisoners that helped win the war.

“The Ritchie Boys” will be available Tuesday, Nov. 20 at retail stores and online, for $26.95.

The orchestra holds its principal concerts at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Purchase College, about 30 miles from Perlman’s New York City home. Its outgoing music director, Paul Lustig Dunkel, is a longtime friend of Perlman. — ap

Web site examines music from the Holocaust

World ORT has launched a Web site for researching music that originated during, or is associated with, the Holocaust. The site, holocaustmusic.ort.org, features maps, articles by leading experts and audio of 68 pieces of music, including songs written in the camps and sung by survivors.

The site also contains information about music from the Nazi accession to power in 1933 until the end of World War II, as well as music produced in commemoration of the Holocaust. Audio includes recordings made by the Jewish Historical Commission of survivors singing. For more information, visit www.ortamerica.org.
