German YouTube under fire

The new German edition of YouTube is rife with neo-Nazi videos and content that is banned in Germany.

The popular Web site, which allows members to publish their material free, went online with its German edition Nov. 8. Observers of right-wing groups said they found videos from banned music groups and films that incite rumors about supposed Jewish conspiracies. — jta

Anne Frank tree to be leveled

The chestnut tree that comforted Anne Frank while she hid from the Nazis will be cut down Nov. 21 because it is too diseased to be saved, Amsterdam officials said.

The 150-year-old chestnut suffers from fungus and moths that have caused more than half its trunk to rot.

The Anne Frank Museum said grafts have already been taken from the tree, and a sapling from the original will eventually replace it. — ap

Breslov sect may lose shul

Breslov Chassidim could lose control of the land surrounding their founder’s grave in Ukraine because of an outstanding debt.

Four years ago a Breslov foundation that oversees community facilities hired a company to reconstruct and expand the synagogue near the grave of the dynasty’s founder, Reb Nachman. A contract dispute broke out between the company, which sued the foundation and had a lien issued on the synagogue and grave site.

The synagogue will be sold to cover the lien. — jta
