Deaths


Norman L. Gershanov. Age 89. Norman passed away at home on November 10, 2007, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Ann, children Linda Bartlett (Ed), Robin Dieter (Vince), Alan Gershanov (Karen), David Graubart (Cheryl), Judy Gorshe (Tim), eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born in Seattle, Wash., he lived in California for most of his life. He was a proud graduate of U.C. Berkeley and served in the Army during World War II. Norman owned Eden Medical Supply in Castro Valley for 26 years. Norman loved life. He loved dancing, woodcarving, marble and clay sculpting, bowling, playing tennis, golf and poker. Edward A. Grunbaum died on November 5, 2007 at 95 years of age. Raised in Seattle, Washington and moved to Oakland in 1945. He started his career in Seattle with Grunbaum Furniture and then in Oakland he was a partner in Cypress Steel and Equipment Co.

Husband of the late Mollie Sussman Grunbaum and Joyce Weintraub Grunbaum; father of John Grunbaum and Karen (Val) Robins; dear grandfather of Deborah and Lori Robins; and longtime companion of Harriet Hart.

Services were held on November 7 at Home of Eternity Cemetery.


Susan Greenfield Kaufman, March 24, 1934-November 11, 2007, Resident of Lafayette, CA.

Daughter of Maurice and Bernyce Greenfield, both deceased. Susan was raised in Joliet, Ill., but has lived in California since 1963.

Susan passed away after several bouts of cancer. She will be remembered in many places for her volunteer work, and for her involvement in playing bridge, maj jongg and love of reading.

Loving wife for 52 years to Bruce, mother of David (Julie), Mara (Joe) Gurule, and Joel (Jessica Grossman), grandmother of Scott, Matthew and Dustin. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Rose Kaufman Freedman and brother-in-law, Allan, plus nephews and grand-nieces.

Services will be held at Temple Isaiah on Tuesday November 13, 2007, at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, Calif.; the Friends of the Lafayette Library, Lafayette, Calif.; or to your favorite charity. Preparations made by Sinai Memorial Chapel.
