Community events honor holiday


Can’t host your own Tu B’Shevat seder? Attend one of these community events.

• Tu B’Shevat gatherings and wilderness spirituality, Sonoma County. Seder is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Ragle Park, Sebastopol. Wilderness celebration and hike 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 at OceanSong Farm and Wilderness Center, Occidental. $18 donation requested for both events. Sponsored by Congregation Shomrei Torah. • Trees of Life: A Tu B’Shevat Seder, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, JCC East Bay, 1414 Walnut St., Berkeley. $8-12. Co-sponsored by the Aquarian Minyan and Kehilla Community Synagogue. Bring a vegetarian dish to share. Reservations encouraged by calling (510) 547-2424 ext. 101.

• Kabbalistic Tu B’Shevat Seder, 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at Redwood Gardens, 2951 Derby St., Berkeley. Led by Rabbi Yehuda Ferris of Chabad of the East Bay. $10-15. To reserve a space or for more information, call (510) 540-5824.

• Bay Area Eco Tu B’Shevat Seder, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Potrero Neighborhood House, 953 De Haro St., S.F. $10-12. Co-sponsored by numerous young adult organizations including American Jewish World Service and the Hub at JCCSF. Coordinators are attempting to make the seder a zero-waste event, so bring your own cup, plate and silverware. For more information, contact Jeff Levy at jeff.levy@aegonusa.com.

• Temple Israel Potluck Tu B’Shevat Seder, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Temple Israel, 3183 McCartney Road, Alameda. Free. Bring a bottle of wine and a vegetarian dish to share. RSVP by calling (510) 522-9355.

• Tu B’Shevat Community Seder, 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, sponsored by Kol Hadash Community for Humanistic Judaism. At the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Ave., Albany. Call Alana Shindler at (510) 848-6137 to sign up to bring something.

• Tu B’Shevat Family Celebration, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Osher Marin JCC, 200 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael. Music, poetry readings and games. For more information, call (415) 444-8000.
