McCain-Lieberman ticket not happening

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) says he wouldn’t accept a Cabinet post or the vice-presidency in a John McCain administration.

There has been speculation that Lieberman, who has been stumping for McCain in Florida, could be tapped as a running mate, should McCain win the Republican nomination.

“I like the Senate,” Lieberman said. “You know, I think I’ve learned a lot about how to make the place work. And for me, that’s all I’m interested in for the remainder of my public service.” — jta

Vandals strike L.A.-area homes

Los Angeles police are investigating spray-painted swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti in an upscale San Fernando Valley neighborhood.

Residents discovered the vandalism early Jan. 17, which included the words “Burn Jews” painted in front of four homes along a two-mile stretch of walls in the suburban communities of Encino and Tarzana. — jta

Jew arrested for hate crimes

A Jewish Brooklyn man has pleaded not guilty to charges of anti-Semitic hate crimes.

Police arrested Ivan Ivanov this week after discovering pipe bombs and other weapons at his home.

Ivanov, who had long been suspected in a September spree of spray-painting anti-Semitic graffiti on houses, cars, playgrounds and two synagogues in his Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, implicated himself in the graffiti incidents during a search of his home.

His attorney Adrian Lesher told reporters Ivanov is Jewish. — jta
