Israeli pluralism activist to speak at Kol Shofar

Shalmi Barmore, the senior educational staffer of Israeli organization Melitz, will speak at Congregation Kol Shofar.

Melitz is dedicated to fostering a connection between Jews and Israel via pluralistic and value-oriented education.

Barmore’s free lecture, titled “Israel: Jewish and Democratic, or a State of All its Citizens?” will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Kol Shofar, 215 Blackfield Drive, Tiburon. For more information, contact Adam Eisendrath at (415) 388-1818 ext. 18.


Tummy talk at Commonwealth Club

Frederick Kaufman will appear at San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club to discuss his newly published book, “A Short History of the American Stomach.” The book is a droll account of American eating habits, going back to the days of the Pilgrims. He also writes about Jewish food and its influence on the American palette.

BlueStar PR launches Web pages

BlueStarPR has opened pages on the popular Web communities Facebook and MySpace.

The San Francisco-based pro-Israel public relations firm will post weekly bulletins and allow visitors to exchange messages.

Hebrew meets yoga in JCCSF class

A class on “Yoga and the Mystical Hebrew Alphabet” will be offered Feb. 16 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.

Robin Hall, a longtime Hebrew calligrapher and yoga instructor, will teach the two-hour class, which aspires to teach students how to breathe and meditate in the physical postures of the Hebrew alphabet.

The yoga class meets 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the JCCSF, 3200 California St. Cost is $35 for members, $50 for guests.
