The unfriendly skies
Benny is on his way to a tropical island for vacation. As he’s waiting in the departure lounge at the airport, a gorgeous woman walks over and sits down next to him. Benny is convinced she must be an airline stewardess. But because she’s not in uniform, he doesn’t know which airline. So he attempts to find out without asking her directly.
He turns to her and recites the American Airlines slogan, “We know why you fly?”
She just stares at him in a confused kind of way, so he’s sure she doesn’t work for American Airlines.
He turns to her again and this time recites the Singapore Airlines slogan, “Something special in the air?”
Once again she gives him the same confused look, so he’s sure she doesn’t work for Singapore Airlines.
Benny then turns to her for a third time and recites the Thai Airways slogan, “Smooth as silk?”
At this, the woman gets very, very angry. With a snarl on her face she turns to Benny and shouts, “What the hell do you want?”
Suddenly, Benny knows. He sits back in his chair and says, “Ah, so you work for El Al.”
A fair comparison?
Jeremy orders a pair of pants from Levine Bros. tailors. Frank takes the order and tells Jeremy they will be ready in a week.
But when Jeremy returns a week later, he’s disappointed to learn that the pants aren’t ready and that he has to come back in another week.
But when Jeremy returns the following week, he is disappointed to learn that the pants still aren’t ready and that he has to come back again in another week.
This goes on for two months until finally, on Jeremy’s ninth visit, the pants are ready. Frank proudly displays them to Jeremy and to everyone in his shop.
“Thanks for the pants, Mr. Levine,” says Jeremy. “But I need to ask you a question. How come God was able to create the world in only six days, yet it took you 60 days to make just one pair of pants?”
“Ah, it’s simple,” replies Frank. “Just look at the condition of the world and then take a look at this gorgeous pair of pants I’ve made for you.”
