Program at Hall of Fame to commemorate Hank Greenberg

cooperstown, n.y. | Hank Greenberg Day, commemorating the 75th anniversary of Green-berg’s rookie season, will be celebrated June 29 at the National Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame, Jewish Major Leaguers has announced.

Panelists for the event include Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Ira Berkow, the co-author of Greenberg’s 1989 autobiography, and Aviva Kempner, who produced and directed “The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg.”

Greenberg is one of three Jews in the Hall of Fame, along with Sandy Koufax and Lou Boudreau, according to Jewish Major Leaguers. The late Barney Dreyfuss, a German immigrant who owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be inducted in July.

The Bronx-born Greenberg played 13 seasons with a .313 career average, 331 homers and 1,276 RBIs. In 1937, he drove in 183 runs, and in 1938, belted 58 homers.

Jewish Major Leaguers is the same Massachusetts-based organization that created the two-day “Celebration of American Jews in Baseball” at the Hall of Fame in 2004.
