Israeli music star to headline San Jose charity benefit

Israeli singer David D’or will perform at a benefit concert for the Tzu Chi Foundation, a Buddhist organization. The event takes place Sept. 6 in San Jose.

D’or, who traces his Sephardic lineage back to a long line of Libyan and Spanish cantors, is a star in his native Israel. He often features Turkish and North African instruments in his arrangements. In 2006, he performed alongside Peter Gabriel at the World of Music and Dance Festival in London and Singapore. His Bay Area appearance benefits Tzu Chi, a Buddhist nonprofit charity organization headquartered in Taiwan.

The concert takes place 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets: $25-$150. Information: (408) 457-6963 or www.tcnw.org.
