Executions follow failed anti-Saddam coup
JERUSALEM (JPS) -- Members of Iraq's elite Republican Guard recently set off a bomb in one of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's p Up to 300 people were later executed in connection with the bombing, the officials added.
Details of the attempt, which reportedly took place during the first week of July, remain sketchy. The official said it remains unclear whether the blast occurred in one of Saddam's palaces in Baghdad or in his hometown of Tikrit. He said there has also been activity against Saddam among the super-elite Special Republican Guard unit, which protects Saddam and is headed by his son, Udday.
