Berkeley program to aid peace
An evening dedicated to Middle East peace-making will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at International House, 2299 Pi The event is a benefit for the School for Peace and Primary School of the cooperative Jewish-Palestinian village of Neve Shalom/
Events will include Arabic music by Georges and Tony Lammam and Laurie Eisler; Israeli and Jewish music by Achi Ben Shalom, Arella Barlev, Loolwa Khazzoom and Ljuba Davis; and a screening of Lynn Feinerman's documentary "If You Make It Possible," about Father Bruno Hussar, who established the Oasis of Peace. In addition, two residents from Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam -- Diana Shaloufe and Bob Mark -- will discuss current events in the community. Supporters include Aquarian Minyan, Kehilla Community Synagogue, Or Shalom Jewish Community, Women's Interfaith Dialogue on the Middle East, Peninsula Living Room Dialogue Group and American Friends Service Committee. Tickets are $15 for students, $25 general admission. Proceeds will finance a course to train Palestinians and Israelis in leadership skill to advance the peace process, plus scholarships for students at the primary school.
